The Father Of Virtual Real Estate Investing Comments On His Industry

Virtual Real Estate Investing” is a relatively new concept. There are many variations on what this term means, encompassing everything from using the internet to aid in real estate investing efforts to participating in online games such as SecondLife.

To separate fact from fiction, I asked Bryan Ellis for comments. He’s the man many consider to be the father of this new form of investing.

Ellis says he adopted the term “virtual real estate investing” sometime before Y2K after he realized that making money online is conceptually very similar to making money with physical real estate.

Bryan Ellis cites the similar strategies one can employe to make money from “virtual property” and “physical property” as a primary parallel of the two markets. He points out that control of a domain name or even a specific web page is much like controlling a real estate property ” those assets can be monetized in similar ways: By selling them for a profit, by leasing them, by offering advertising, etc.

I must admit: Its easy to see the parallels. After all, if you own a valuable piece of real estate, it’s “valuable” because other people are interested in that specific piece of property. Likewise, if you own a desirable domain name, others will find value in it because it serves their purposes. So it doesn’t matter if you own physical real estate or virtual real estate - you’ll likely use similar strategies to turn them into money in your pocket.

In our next installment of this series on virtual real estate investing., Bryan Ellis will share the internet analogies to the physical concept of real estate development.

Filed under: Marketing Info @ 12:01 pm

It is a proven fact that the number of work at home Adsense affiliates is on the increase. Most people who may not have known this, at least suspected it.

However what most may never have guessed about the sharply increasing numbers of work at home Adsense affiliates is that most of them are having the time of their lives even as they bring in the bacon without ever having to leave their front doors. Some of them hardly ever leave their bedrooms.

To start earning from this fun activity, the first thing they do is join a couple of affiliate programs including the popular Google Adsense affiliate program.

It has been proven time and again that people tend to do extremely well when they’re involved in something that they love to do. So as these work at home Adsense affiliates have the time of their lives making posts and gathering information on their favorite past time, they tend to quickly pick up the traffic. One way of picking up blog traffic is by using your blog articles and content creatively.

The effect is that as targeted traffic grows, so does their income from their Google Adsense ads. And that is usually just the beginning of good things for the work at home Adsense affiliate.

Trip To Iqaluit In Nunavut, A Canadian Arctic City

Filed under: Marketing Info @ 4:08 am

In 2004, I completed two Inuit art buying trips to Iqaluit (formerly Frobisher Bay), the capital of Nunavut, Canada’s newest territory. For both trips, I flew out of Ottawa on Canadian North airlines. The other airline that services Nunavut is First Air. Only the last half of the jets was allocated for passengers as the entire first half was for cargo. Being so remote, Canadian Arctic Inuit communities pretty well have to have everything shipped up there by plane or by boat during the summers since there are no roads connecting to the rest of Canada or even between each Nunavut community. The Arctic landscape from the air was desolate, hilly and barren. As the plane got closer to Iqaluit, the airport’s small terminal building stood out with its bright yellow color. The airport itself is within walking distance to the rest of the town. There are taxis that charge a flat rate of $5 per trip anywhere in Iqaluit. Interestingly enough, these taxis also pick up and drop off other passengers along the way so shared rides with others are common here. There are several hotels in Iqaluit and rooms are generally clean, comfortable but quite basic. Accommodations and dining up north in Nunavut are both expensive. All food items with the exception of local Inuit fare must be flown up from the Canadian south. A carton of milk will cost about $10 in Iqaluit. Most Inuit locals cannot afford to buy overpriced fruits, vegetables and meat from the south. Many local families still rely on Inuit hunters who bring caribou, seal and whale to the table.

There is only one high rise building in Iqaluit and it is used mainly for local Nunavut government offices. All other buildings are low rise, including the hospital. The vast majority of the residential housing is similar to cabins that are raised off the ground because of the harsh Canadian Arctic winters. Many look a bit run down with junk and disposed items piled outside. With the fact that there are no lawns or trees possible this far north, the neighborhoods are certainly not the prettiest sights around. But one Inuit art carver told me that his government subsidized rent is only $36 per month. There are some small clusters of nice homes on the outskirts of town. Some houses have husky dogs tied up outside and many have snowmobiles. In fact, the roads, most of them unpaved, are shared by cars, trucks, snowmobiles, all terrain
vehicles and people. During the summers, Iqaluit can get quite dusty with all the vehicles turning up the dirt on the roads. As a result, Iqaluit did look a bit nicer during my first trip which was during the winter when the city was in white snow rather than brown dirt. There is new construction going on since with the creation of the Nunavut territory, Iqaluit is growing as more Inuit from other Arctic communities are migrating to the city.

One thing that was very noticeable in Iqaluit was the large numbers of children everywhere. Nunavut has a very young population with 56% under the age of 25. I saw many Inuit mothers wearing traditional Inuit parkas with large hoods in the back where their babies are carried. The Inuit youth is one of the Canadian Arctic’s untapped resources and its future. They have access to satellite television and dress just like their counterparts in the south. However, at present only about 25% of high school students graduate so a big challenge for the Nunavut government is to encourage the Inuit kids to stay in school. During my second trip, there was darkness for only a few hours each day so it was very strange to be walking around town at 10 pm in the evening with daylight still present. Even at this hour, there were still quite a few young Inuit children playing outside. The locals, Inuit and non-Inuit alike were very friendly. I got the impression of a tight community perhaps because of the isolation of the Canadian Arctic. However, the local Inuit were also very open to visitors and willing to share a bit of their lives. During the daytime, I went up to a few Inuit art carvers who were working outside their houses. Each turned off their power saws when I approached them and seemed happy to talk to me. I met most of them later during the evenings when they showed me their finished works of Inuit art.

I had the opportunity to walk about 30 minutes to the outskirts of town past the airport one day. I climbed up a hilltop with a satellite dish facility overlooking an expansive valley. There was nobody else around and it was incredible how silent the area was. It was like a vacuum where I could hear only my own breathing. It was a very peaceful and even spiritual moment there. While sitting on this Arctic hilltop, I was suddenly startled at one point by a noise and it turned out to be the flapping wings of a large raven flying by. There are tours offered by local outfitters to see the northern wildlife and experience some of the Arctic tundra further out. I hope to take one of these tours on a future visit. A trip to Nunavut is not cheap since everything, including flights are so expensive. However, I will definitely return not only for more Inuit art, but also to experience more of the local Inuit culture and the Arctic land.

Our First Family

Filed under: Marketing Info @ 6:35 pm

Genesis 1:26 “Let us make man in our image….” Man made in love, beauty, and intelligence, man made for intimate fellowship with God his Father.

God made Adam then Eve - The very 1st family, and it was GOOD. All things were created for man. He had dominion over all things living and growing. God had only given man one limitation.

Adam apparently wasn’t the greatest communicator, and Eve had so much going on with her gardening and all the animals, her listening skills apparently weren’t as tuned into him as they should have been. And neither apparently used the reasoning skills they were endowed with.

So, one day because they didn’t use their mutual skills, Eve fell for the o’key-doke of one Satan the serpent (aka: tempter (tress), Lucifer, the wanna-be god, busybody, Loser, etc). Surely you know the kind. Anyway, Satan came at her with a challenge. The challenge to break the limit God had put on them to not eat of the tree of good and evil. Satan challenged their view of God to be right or wrong, he challenged the Word of God as a lie, and the ultimate challenge to them that they would not die; but instead they would be gods too knowing good and evil.

Remember everything was good, except for Satan. He was all set to wreak havoc on the perfect world that God created. Adam and Eve had everything at their fingertips for the picking. What Satan showed Eve looked so good, smelled pretty, sounded so sensible, and seemed so innocent she went for his line. Adam followed Eve. They made a choice. Choices, as we now know, have rewards or consequences. Our 1st. family was about to learn their first lesson about independent living, not heeding the promises of God who loves them.

Well Adam and Eve had their way, did the forbidden thing, and immediately their eyes were truly open. They knew that they were wrong. They were scared. For the first time Adam and Eve experienced fear. Their loving relationship with Father God was in question. They realized for the first time they were vulnerable. They stood naked facing each other and knew the shame of what they had done, and just how helpless and defenseless they really were. So they tried to hide themselves. Again mistakenly, they thought they could hide from God too. We’ve played that game too - hide and seek.

As God did every evening He came to visit His kids. “Adam, Adam where are you?” He knew all the time, but dad’s who love don’t just drop their kids because they are wrong. He sought them out, even though He knew what they did and where they were.

Adam and Eve were in trouble. They wanted things their way - out of God’s law, able to experiment. There is a price to pay when we live outside of God’s coverage. Father God could have destroyed them, right then, and started all over again. But instead He gave them a chance to come clean about what happened.

Adam answered. “I heard you, but I was afraid, cause’ I was naked so I hid myself.”

“Adam, who told you that you were naked? Adam did you eat of the tree I commanded you not to eat of?”

Now the blame game starts.

Adam answers, “The woman you gave me she gave it to me.
God asks Eve, “What have you done?
Eve is thinking, I’m not taking the whole rap for this. She answers, “The serpent deceived me, and I did eat.

Then God said to the serpent, because you have caused this mess, you are cursed and there will be hostility between you and the woman, and her seed will bruise your head. To the woman He said He would greatly multiply her sorrow, and her husband would rule over her. To the man who had dominion over all things; God said to the man, because I commanded you not to eat of the fruit; the ground is cursed because of your doing; the land will be thorny and hard to till, hard to harvest. You will labor hard to eat of it until you die. From dust you came, to dust you will return.

But God allowed them to live. In His love for them He made skins to cover their nakedness. But the 1st family had to leave the garden. They had to leave that safe, beautiful and secure place that their Father had created for them.

God gave them what they thought they wanted - independence. Today we are still drawn away from our Father for the allurement of ‘pretty, more knowledge, being gods in one way or another.’ We are still subject to our curiosity, to our need for independence, self-rule. God gives us what we want; but just as Adam and Eve did, we will always pay the cost to be the boss.

Adam and Eve, the 1st family were the groundwork for our society today. The plan of God for family was and is today to be indivisible, united, strong, in belief and actions. We have the choice today to make our homes strong and safe. To teach values that an intruder/family-crasher cannot come in and easily deceive. We have an opportunity still to live in the presence of God and to live in His perfect will for our family.

When families are united as God intended them to be, it is hard for outside forces to come between them. We can learn from the experiences of Adam and Eve. God’s plan was for them and us to grow and prosper in His love and provision for us. When we as families put God first, teaching our children the laws of God, and living in the purpose that God created each of us for - We are strong.

Families are the foundation that communities are built around. Take God our Father out of family we have chaos; limited values, diminishing respect for ourselves and others; kids killing parents, grown folks raping children, lies; deception used to benefit self. Without the value centered family communities do not turn into nations with purpose; and a nation without purpose is lost.

Keep our families strong and follow God’s command: Deuteronomy 4:5-9. See I have taught you rules and laws as the Lord my God has commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to possess. Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about these rules and say, “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.” What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to Him? And what other nation is so great as to have such righteous rules and laws as this body of laws I am setting before you today? Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.

Let us remain one nation, one community, one family as in the words in our Pledge of Allegiance of the United States of America …We are one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. And as our money states let us so put into action by building our families believe ‘In God We Trust.’

2. End your sales letter or ad copy with a strong closing. It could be a free bonus, a discount price, a benefit reminder, an ordering deadline, etc.

3. Please your complaining customers. You can refund their money, give them a discount, give them a free gift, solve the problem quickly, etc.

4. Make your customers get excited about your business and they will tell their friends. Give them a free vacation certificate, a coupon, etc.

5. Give your prospects extra confidence so they will order. Use endorsements, testimonials, a strong guarantee or warranty, etc.

6. Build your opt-in list by allowing your visitors to sign up for a free e-zine, ebooks, software, contests, sweepstakes, etc.

You’ll make sales from the purchase of the gift certificate, when the recipient cashes it in. They could also buy other items from your web site.

15. Send your customers free products with their product package. The freebies should have your ad printed on them. It could be bumper stickers, ball caps, t-shirts etc. This will allow other people to see your ad and order.

The Truth in Advertising

Filed under: Marketing Info @ 2:07 am

Most of us have seen at least a dozen different toothpaste commercials that claim, “Three out of four dentists recommend….” You may have wondered, as I did, how each of these claims could be possibly be true. They are based on statistical evidence, so why are there such varied results? If you listen to advertising, there seems to be no clear consensus on which health-related products–aspirin, cough syrup, antihistamines–are the best.

They are all recommended by 3 out of 4 professionals. Is it possible they are making false claims? The truth is that they are all telling the truth. When it comes to marketing a health product, the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) is always watching to make sure advertisers never tell a lie. Statements such as _____ reduces the risk of cancer, ______ removes harmful toxins from your water, or _____ fights plaque and reduces gingivitis, must all be substantiated. In other words, the products must do what they claim. To avoid the wrath of the FTC, it is always best to tell the truth about your product or service, especially in the health industry. But what is truth? In subjective terms it is difficult to discern.

However, the FTC has many guidelines to help you find truth in your advertising:

*Before you run an ad, you have to have a “reasonable basis” for your claims. A “reasonable basis” is objective evidence that supports the claim. At a minimum, an advertiser must have the level of evidence that it claims to have. The statement “two out of three doctors recommend…” must be supported by a reliable survey.

*If the ad isn’t specific, the FTC looks at several factors to determine what level of proof is necessary, including what experts in the field think is needed to support the claim.

*Ads that make health or safety claims must be supported by “competent and reliable scientific evidence” - tests, studies, or other scientific evidence that has been evaluated by people qualified to interpret it. Any tests or studies must be conducted using methods that experts in the field deem acceptable.

These are just a few of the guidelines to consider when making an advertising claim. But don’t be too worried. As long as you tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, there is no reason to keep looking over your shoulder. Jane Jarvis knows the advantage of truth in advertising, and isn’t afraid to use it.

“I could never write an e-book!”

Snooooooooooooooooooore. Snore. Snore.

I hear this one all the time from from our members and mentees at Building Your Ideal Practice. When I hear someone say this, I usually think the follwoing three things:

1) Argue for your limitations and you get to keep them. - Richard Bach

2) Whether you believe you can or you believe you can’t, you are right. - Henry Ford

3) Oh yeah? - Jeff Herring

10 simple steps that work time after time

Whatever your area of expertise, take a moment and list 5 major signs that someone has the problem that you can fix.

Now list the five major things you would recommend someone do to fix the problem.

If my math is correct, you now have ten things listed out, 5 signs of a problem and 5 ways to fix the problem.

Now pick one of the major signs of difficulty and add a few lines. Then add an example, case study or story.

Now pick one of the major solutions you have listed and add a few lines. Then add an example, case study or story.

Do this 4 more times for the major signs of difficulty and 4 more times for the major solutions, add an introduction and a conclusion, and you have an ebook.

That wasn’t so tough, now was it?

Black America Rejects Gay Contingency

Filed under: Marketing Info @ 1:19 am

The Millions More Movement looked like a good opportunity for Gay and Lesbian Homosexual Preference Leaders to address a large group and it was well publicized with lots of Television Cameras. But the promoters of the Million More Movement wanted to keep the group event positive and focused, not wanting to attach the negative stigma of the anti-Christian comments which has plagued the Gay and Lesbian movement and probably cost John Kerry the election against Mr. Bush.

Gay and Lesbian Groups around the country are trying to unite to keep their groups going, but everywhere they go, they are finding little unity with other fringe groups. In fact there seems to be quite rift within the gay and lesbian community. One group is trying to be responsible and gain the respect of the country and the other is carrying on with outlandish publicity stunts, half naked frolicking gay parades and screaming and yelling gay adolescent to age 30 males with no sense of reality.

Being rejected by the Black Community now appear that the Black Community is moving up very fast, but the gay community still has that stigma that they just cannot dump. One lesbian I talked to said, “We were that close to getting the State Legislature to allowing the gay marriage bill to pass, but since the gay men verbally attacked politicians previously, it was vetoed and he called them Girlie Men again.”

She went on to tell me if these gay freaks would stop these games, we might be able to get somewhere. The Black Community is moving towards the conservative side now as the speakers for the Million More Rally hosted Rev. Willie F. Wilson among other prominent and respected Black Americans.

The new Pope has sent word to the Catholic Bishops with regards to the gay issue. The Hispanic Groups are following his lead. The Black Americans are moving away from the Gay Community. There is even a huge rift now in the gay community themselves as the more responsible group, will not police its own fringe, but is attempting to distance themselves to a more centrist roadmap. Meanwhile the Democratic Group is also keenly aware that they do not want to lose too many more seats in the next election, although probably will due to the gay stigma which plagued them and cost them countless seats in the last election. Can the Gay Community Survive as everyone runs away from their cause? Think on this.

Give Your Enemy the Keys to Your House

Filed under: Marketing Info @ 9:49 am

Everybody has an enemy, or someone they just do not like or trust. We are going to try a new exercise and give the keys to ours house, cars, and bank account numbers to our biggest enemy. Sounds like a brilliant idea, right? It must be brilliant, our government is doing just that. http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/02/23/port.security/index.html

I have been critical in the past about our government and our politicians in the past. I will continue to be as long as our country is run the same way. We are just four and a half years removed from two planes destroying two buildings, killing thousands of people, and ruining the lives of the people left behind. Those terrorists were of an Arabian background. Obviously not all people can be grouped together but there is a difference between sitting next to one on a bus and allowing our ports to be run by them.

In the article, Bush said he didn’t hear anyone complaining that England was running one of our ports. While it is understandable why we would let England run a port, I do not agree with that either. Why wouldn’t we run our own ports? Why do we need other countries running our ports if they are so important? China, a communist country, is running a dock in Los Angles? Does that make sense to anyone either?

It amazes me what politicians come up with and how they can justify it. I am sure that most people did not know that many of our bombs and tools for defending our country are built in China as well. Yes, our government has contracted with a communist country to build weapons we need to defend ourselves in the event of a war. My question is, who is most likely to attack us besides the terrorists? My answer is, a communist country such as China.

Of course every politician that is hoping to become President in 2008 will jump all over this situation to bring light to themselves. While this is a good reason to criticize the Bush administration I think they will have other motives. As voters we really need to begin seeing through all of this garbage. We have to make much better decisions in choosing the leaders of our country. Common sense would indicate that you would not give up control of our six biggest ports to a country that is well-known for supporting terrorism in the past.

As voters we need to regain control of the country and begin making a difference in how our country is governed. I will continue to make this plea over the coming years through many different articles. Hopefully by the next Presidential election people will be seeing things differently. If you do not like the candidates in the 2008 election you can always feel free to write my name in on the ballot, I know I could do a better job.
