Q-Rich Donates $1K for Feed the Children
For the second time in a row, NBA’s Detroit Pistons carried out a charity telethon last March 12 of this year. In 2008, the charity telethon elevated more than $412,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The more recent telethon raised over $440,000 for Feed The Children, which was used to aid poverty-stricken Michigan families.
While fans and spectators were encouraged to offer their donation at every break of the game, Quentin Richardson of New York secretly had a team personnel fetch a donation form. He then gave a $1000 check for Feed The Children some time during the game. The Knicks guard-forward wasn’t hungry for attention though — he was not even aware the public immediately knew of his donation.
As a response Richardson said, “I worked with Feed The Children before, and I’m from a situation where my family wasn’t rich or anything growing up. I know how much it means. And I know that I wasn’t put in this position of wealth and money and all of that just for my family and myself, so whenever I get the opportunity I always try to help other people whichever way I can.”
Until the end of the game, the Knicks won against the Pistons, 116-111. Quentin Richardson is currently playing for the Miami for the 2009-2010 season.
