On Keeping Your Town Tidy for after the Night before
Wander around your local town during the early hours of the dawn and you’ll discover a number of road sweepers meandering around cleaning up the litter left from all the shenanigans of the previous night. It’s an emblematic early daybreak scene, and it frequently hides the litter problem we encounter. We don’t actually give rubbish a consideration as we feel keeping the roads clean is not our chore.
Even so, there is a sometimes imperceptible yet fundamental impact litter has in terms of determining the mood of people. Individuals are more liable to think an area is less well policed if litter is strewn around, and therefore criminals see litter as a possible sign for an opportunity of a mugging or robbery. The same signal develops some fear in other individuals who worry they may be strolling into a more risky area and are concerned about possibly being robbed.
Not only that, but also the impact on the visual appeal of an area. Rubbish scattered about can make an area look unkempt even if it’s just been trashed by people from the night before. This can harm the reputation of a location if individuals are only within the area for this specific short period of time and only view it in its messy state.
There’s no purpose to drop rubbish if there are empty rubbish bins around the area. If there is a lack of bins, or the rubbish bins that are there are overloaded, this is a problem to take up with the local council. Trashing an area has a damaging influence on everyone.
