The world junior squash championships are about to start Wednesday in Chennai however Malaysia’s squash team of seven girls are predicted not to get any medals in the said championships.

Ajaz Azmat, national elite coach, admitted that of the seven players that make up the team — Low Wee Nee, Tan Yan Xin, Nessrine Ariffin, Rachel Goh, Vanessa Raj, Yong Sue Ann and Celine Yeap—none of whom will make the semi-finals with their squash rackets.

The Pakistani Coach said in an interview, “The juniors of the other countries are strong and the best we can hope for is seeing Wee Nee (sixth seed) and Nessrine (ninth-16th) in the quarter-finals.”

India’s Dipika Pallikal and Egyptian Heba El Torky are said to the top two seeds predicted to make it all the way to the finals at the World Junior Squash Championships in Chennai. Both players are strong and dominate in their games.

Wee Nee, Nessrine, Yan Xin and Rachel, as Ajaz says, are the four who are predicted to do well, fight well in their respective challenges at the championships for Malaysia.

Ajaz further says that, “The seedings for the team event will be based on the players’ performance in the individual competition. I hope the players will give their best in the individual event to earn a good seeding.”

This is the first time the world juniors are having the boys’ and girls’ individual events held simultaneously. The girls’ team event will also be held around the same time however there will be no boys’ team competition.

Ivan Yuen, for mens’, is Malaysia’s best bet for a medal at the championships. He is the Asian Junior champion.

Trailing behind Egyptian Mohamed El Shorbagy is second seed Ivan. Third seed Egyptian Karim Abdel Gawad, is up against Ivan for the draw.
